Do Boron Supplements Increase Testosterone Levels?
Today, we will discuss testosterone and the male sex drive. Testosterone is the hormone that is associated with a healthy sex drive. It helps regulate mood, bone density, and red blood cell production.
As men age, their testosterone levels naturally decrease, leading to a depressing cocktail of decreased sex drive, erectile dysfunction, infertility, and muscle mass.
It’s not surprising that many males are more than a little curious to learn how to increase testosterone levels. A simple blood test can measure your levels of testosterone.
If you have low testosterone levels, you may have any of the following symptoms.
1. Reduced sex drive
2. Reduced erectile function
3. Loss of body hair
4. Less beard growth
5. Loss of lean muscle mass
6. Feeling very tired all the time (fatigue)
7. Obesity (being overweight)
8. Symptoms of depression
Health specialists may offer the following options to get your T-level back to above 300ng/dl. This may take up to 6 months.
There are five ways to take testosterone from a physician.
1. Through the skin
2. By Injection
3. By mouth)
4. Through the nose
5. By pellets under the skin.
All seem to offer the same benefits.
Is Boron An Option To Consider As A Supplement Vehicle You Consider The Conventional Treatments?
We will take you through some research into this topic and give you our take. Two studies on boron and its impact on testosterone levels show that boron enhanced free testosterone levels by up to 28.3%. In the first study, 18-29-year-olds were given 10mg of boron per day for one week.
After the study, surprisingly, there was, on average, a 28% rise in free testosterone among the group. In a second study, 18-29-year-olds were given 10mg of boron daily for four weeks. There was an 11.4% increase in total testosterone.
What’s Going On Here?
Well, first, it’s a younger age group, so this may indicate that testosterone levels are healthy and normal. Boron apparently lowers SHBG levels (sex hormone-binding globulin), which boosts testosterone levels. The reduced SHBG allows more sex hormones to be ‘free’ and available in the bloodstream.
There are other side benefits: Lower globulin helps with muscle growth and recovery and enhances overall strength. Researchers also reported a 39% drop in estrogen levels when 10mg of boron is taken each day over a short period.
There is a But, though! When taken for four weeks, researchers saw an increase in estrogen levels. This suggests that boron can suppress estrogen if taken for a short course but has the reverse effect in the long run.
What Is The Recommendation?
Cycle boron for two weeks on and one week off to avoid estrogen levels rising. Back to the study for a minute, 13 registered low Vitamin D levels of the participants tested. But with a 6mg dose of boron per day for 60 days, there was, on average, a 19.6% increase in Vitamin D levels, a 56% increase in DHEA, and a 29.5% increase in free testosterone.
Getting the right mix of boron over time can enhance testosterone levels.
What Are The Recommended Boron Dosage And Supplementation?
First off, boron supplements should be taken in moderation. Excessive amounts can cause side effects, including constipation and indigestion. Boron doses of less than 20mg daily are generally considered safe. Doctors recommend starting with 3-10mg of Boron a day. If you’re suffering from low testosterone levels, you will likely be offered a higher dose of up to 10mg daily.
But as we saw earlier, using boron for more than two weeks can be sub-optimal. And experts also say that it’s not safe to consume more than 20mg of boron daily. We hope that gives you some insight into boron and testosterone. Remember, get a blood test at your local doctor, and they will steer you in the right direction to get your sex drive back on track.
