Boronic Acid

Boronic Acid

Boronic Acid, or acids, works as Lewis acids, and they form reversible covalent complexes with sugars, amino acids, hydroxamic acids, and others. It is considered a unique feature of the acid group. They are extensively used in organic chemistry in the form of chemical building blocks.

Boron

What is Boron

What is Boron? Boron is a chemical element with symbol B and atomic number. The name derives from the Arabic buraq for "white." It was discovered or 'isolated' in 1808 by the French chemists Louis-Joseph Gay-Lussac and Louis-Jacques Thenard, who isolated boron by combining boric acid (H3BO3) with potassium.

Borates in Metallurgy

Borates in Metallurgy

Borates in Metallurgy have been used over the centuries for both non-ferrous smelting and precious metals refining. Evidence suggests that gold-makers used borates as a fluxing agent even in Babylonian times. Borates lower the melting point and prevent oxidation. They also remove metal oxides and help to adjust the slag's viscosity for easier removal from the molten metal. Borates can also be used in lead recycling and metal recovery.

APPLICATIONS

Pest Control, Wood Protection

Boron-based Insecticides

Boron-based Insecticides: Plants and animals depend on Boron to thrive. As a pesticide ingredient, this versatile compound can control pests such as ants, spiders, beetles, moths, cockroaches, and others. Most boron-based insecticides are less toxic than traditional pesticides since they do not affect the nervous system or irritate the skin.

CHEMISTRY

Chemistry

Borates

Borates are minerals that naturally occur and contain boron, the fifth of the Periodic Table’s elements. Water, soil, and rock all contain trace amounts. They are vital for the growth of plants. Borates play a vital role in the manufacture of everything from ceramics to insecticides. You can find them naturally in the environment and they even occur naturally in our bodies.

Boron Nanotubes BNNT Stability for Electronics

The Boron Nitrate Nanotube is a novel material with unique properties, including high thermal conductivity and chemical stability. It has been used in many applications such as heat transfer fluids, lubricants, coatings for semiconductors, catalysts, etc., but its use in batteries was not explored until recently. The first report of the application of BNNTs in Li-ion batteries appeared only in 2020.

Boron and the war on Cancer

Boron is a natural mineral that helps with different aspects of health. One of the most important roles it plays in our bodies is to help maintain healthy tissues. This includes bones and cells. It is an effective treatment for many types of cancer. Because it can stop tumor growth and reduce inflammation in the body. Let’s take a look at how this mineral works its magic on some common cancers. So does Boron battle cancer?

BENEFITS, Chemistry

Borax: The Safe and Effective Detergent

Borax is used in cleaning products because it helps remove dirt and grime. But we need to handle it carefully or it can be dangerous if ingested by children. Borax is a white powdery substance that is also known as sodium tetraborate. Although sodium tetraborate is a salt of boric acid, it is not an acid, it’s a salt.

Country Profile of Boron USA

Boron USA: The production of boron USA and boron extracted products in the USA is a strategic activity. Borates extraction as high-end minerals contributes to the advanced technology of industries such as aerospace and defence. They are also important to secure food supply in domestic agriculture, and contribute to decarbonisation efforts. The USA is a net importer of borates given Eti Maden’s control of supply and declining production by Rio Tinto but new sources – the Fort Cady project by ABR – will address this imbalance

Low Carbon Future with Boron

We live in a world where the environment is constantly going through changes. This is because we are running out of fossil fuels, and all it takes for our society to collapse is one more natural disaster. Therefore, the invention of new materials that facilitate the mission statement of a low carbon future is essential in today's day and age to decrease our dependence on fossil fuels.

Boron in Energy Conservation

In response to energy conservation demands, energy conservation is a system has for some time been implemented in homes, as well as industrial and commercial sectors. When we talk about energy conservation, boron is the most efficient and naturally occurring chemical.  Energy consumption adversely affects the economy on all levels; high energy costs are an impediment to economic development for any country. A determined effort needs are taken by both private individuals & large businesses alike to reduce their input of "energy" into our global ecosystem - which includes many aspects including economic output (gross domestic product).

MICRONUTRIENTS

FOOD SECURITY, MICRONUTRIENTS

Ensuring Micronutrient Boron Supply

Famine is a natural disaster that occurs in underdeveloped countries, famine areas, and war-torn regions. In these regions, micronutrients such as boron are scarce or unavailable to the local population. The lack of micronutrients leads to malnutrition which can cause poverty and other issues such as disease and death. Here is a discussion on the importance of micronutrients for famine relief efforts. Check out their benefits for mental health, physical health, and economic development.
